PGA Tour Suffers a Major Setback as a Scottie Scheffler Disappointment Hits the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship

The Wells Fargo Championship is just around the corner. The sixth signature event on the 2024 PGA Tour calendar will witness many top athletes duking it out for the title of champion and a cut of the elevated $20 million. However, they won’t be able to see Scottie Scheffler, the 2024 Masters champ, on the greens.

The American Pro is currently at home with his wife, on baby watch, as the couple awaits the arrival of their first child. Meanwhile, Scheffler’s absence at the PGA Tour event, which will kick off on May 8 at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club, will prove to be nothing short of a huge disappointment to the Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour as well as the tournament!

Scheffler’s absence hits the Wells Fargo Championship hard

Being the most versatile golfer of the current season, Scheffler leads the list when it comes to the total number of wins in 2024, with four victories in his last five starts. He boasts the most number of top-10 finishes among the PGA Tour Pros as well, nine of them including the four wins. Moreover, the American Pro also dominates the others when it comes to his scoring average, with figures of 67.46.

That’s not all. When it comes to birdie average, the 27-year-old again tops the list with a stat of 5.38. To top it all off, from the total 2.851 strokes gained that helped him dominate the list once again, he boasts a 2.835 for his ‘Tee-to-Greens’, 1.398 for his ‘Approach the Green’, a GIR% of 74.76%, and a total of 30 rounds in the 60s, all of which he peaks over his fellow PGA Tour Pros

Such figures to his name, coupled with the fact that Scottie Scheffler is currently staying away from the Wells Fargo Championship, would cause the circuit to suffer. Although it would create an opportunity for other professionals to have a run at the trophy, it might, in turn, lead to low turnout when it comes to TV ratings or viewership numbers, not to mention the talented golfers that the community will be missing.

Thanks to his performance in the past few years, Scheffler has cemented his spot as the top golfer on the OWGR with a total point tally of 676.73344. Thus, amidst such celebration and hype, his fans can’t help but wonder whether he will take part in the second major of the season, the 2024 PGA Championship.

Is Scottie Scheffler playing at the 2024 PGA Championship?

The American pro is set to participate in the upcoming major championship as per the field list that was made public on May 7, Tuesday. However, if his wife, Meredith Scheffler, hasn’t given birth by then, and goes ahead to deliver the baby during the event, then there is a high chance of him leaving Valhalla to attend his child’s birth. The pro had declared the same back when he was at Augusta when he mentioned his readiness “to go at a moment’s notice” after the first round.

Even so, the athlete will try to dish out his best when he is on the course. Especially so when he keeps furnishing his skills even when he is away from professional golf. As per a report from Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine, Scottie Scheffler “was keeping his game sharp Thursday at Maridoe GC in Carrollton, Texas,” while playing a round of golf with CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo. Well, it seems it will prove to be extra hard for the other golfers to push past the PGA Tour Pro despite him being on a break!
