It appears the 2024 Masters Tournament champ is well set on teeing it up at the upcoming major. The golf world was waiting in anticipation for any news of Scottie Scheffler making it to the PGA Championship after his break from the game. The golf community can now rest easy as a piece of news regarding the golfer’s presence at the event was made public just hours ago.
A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF mentioning how the American pro is currently set on attending the interview that takes place on Tuesday at 3:30 P.M. ahead of the major. Meanwhile, coupling the new announcement made by the handle with the reports of him already becoming a father, the fans couldn’t help but express their happiness for the professional.
It seems Scottie Scheffler can add another moniker to the list of names he has. Although unconfirmed by the golfer himself, his wife, Meredith, appears to have already given birth to their first child. The reports were made public by Bob Harig and then subsequently by Flushing It on their X handles, with the latter reiterating how the pro will attend the presser and the tournament while aiming for 2 wins in a row in the opening 2 majors.
The professional started off his winning streak at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he emerged victorious thanks to his 15-under 273. He then went ahead to win the PLAYERS Championship with a 268 (-20), followed by a T2 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and two more victories at the Masters Tournament and the RBC Heritage.
However, he has not been present at any of the events that followed the RBC Heritage. The athlete did not take part in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the CJ Cup at Byron Nelson, or the ongoing Wells Fargo Championship. To spend some quality time with his wife as she was in the last days of pregnancy. Thus, the two pieces of news revealing his attendance at the tournament as well as his becoming a father surely were exciting, to say the least.
Netizens go gaga over Scottie Scheffler’s news
Taking a look back at the penultimate event that he played, the major at Augusta, he had expressed his intention to leave the tournament if and when his wife went into labor. “I’ll be out of here,” stated the golfer when asked about what he would do when the baby comes out during his stint at Augusta. That’s how eager and excited he was to drop everything and run to his wife during his child’s delivery, which was expected to happen in April. Coming to the due date, Scheffler had revealed it during a promotion on his social media handle: “We also have a tourist on the inside. We have a little surprise coming out in April. It’s also Meredith’s birthday. She’s a Taurus, so that’s just you know, a little more about it.” Now we are two weeks into May and the couple seems to have reportedly become parents as well. Some followers, thus, came forward to disclose the details of his child’s birth, commenting “I’ve heard from an inside source (a Dallas nurse) that the baby was born last week”, “There’s a very good chance baby was born this past week,” and “And it’s a baby boy.” At the same time, another came forward to react as well but he took a different touch, commenting on the golfer’s situation for the future; “Ahhhhhhh I hear ya!! Well at least he might be sleep-deprived a little next week now.”
Scottie Scheffler’s absence in various tournaments has proven to be nothing short of a disappointment for many in the community. Especially so when he boasts immense stats on the greens, with a scoring average of 67.46, a Birdie Average of 5.38, Strokes Gained (SG): Total at 2.851, SG: Tee-to-Green at 2.835, SG: Approach the Green at 1.398, 30 Rounds in the 60s and a G-I-R% of 74.76%, among others, all of which he dominates. That’s not all, he even boasts a total of nine top-10 finishes on the greens in 2024, with four victories. No wonder a fan was visibly happy about the fact that he would be joining the upcoming major, the PGA Championship, as they responded, “Whatever happens at least we have a stronger field for a major rather than the fields they’ve been putting out on the USPGAT. It should making better viewing for golf fans worldwide.”
Meanwhile, one follower couldn’t deny the fact that Scheffler managed to keep a tightrope around the whole thing as it was happening. No news was made public about the golfer’s wife and his delivery after he took a break, except for the American pro reportedly practicing his game with CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo. Consequently, the followers went ahead to mention how it was “insane” under the tweet: “If Scottie was able to keep that under wraps then his team deserves a raise. Insane if that baby was born and not even the top golf reporters in the world knew about it.” Well, do you feel the same? Or are you just happy to see him on the greens again next week?
