Scottie Scheffler wanted to get in some workout before the second round of the PGA Championship but instead got arrested! Just outside the gates of the Valhalla Golf Club, the two-time major champion was taken into police custody due to some misunderstanding. Scheffler was soon released and was able to participate in the second round, as he reached the course an hour before his tee time.

The whole ordeal left Scheffler with four charges against him: second-degree assault against a police officer, disregarding an officer’s order, reckless driving, and third-degree criminal mischief. There were many rumors about the charges being dropped. However, none of them turned out to be true, given the recent developments in the case.

Scottie Scheffler’s attorney busted the recent rumors

Two days ago, No Laying Up podcast’s Kevin Van Valkenburg reported that, according to a source, Jefferson County prosecutors were planning to drop the charges pressed against Scottie Scheffler. That meant that for his then-scheduled arraignment on Tuesday, Scheffler would have walked out of the civil court without any criminal records.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, debunked all the rumors and said, “Whoever reported [the charges] were going to be dismissed was not accurate.” Romines further defined his client and stated that the 27-year-old did not do anything wrong and was just trying to follow orders like everyone else. As per Sports Illustrated, the date of the arraignment has been shifted to June 3rd. For now, Scheffler can focus on his family and game alone.

According to the arrest report, Officer Bryan Gillis was dragged to the ground when he was attempting to stop Scheffler’s car. Furthermore, the report entails that the incident left Gils “pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist.” Many new updates started to emerge in the following days. One of them addressed the lack of evidence of the unfortunate incident.

There was no body cam to capture Scottie Scheffler’s morning arrest

After the unfortunate arrest of Scheffler and his eventual release, Louisville Mayor Craig Green revealed that progress had been made in Scheffler’s case. But there was no body cam footage captured from Officer Bryan Gillis. the mayor explained, “The officer did not have a bodycam footage turned on during the incident. We will release the footage that we have. We have not discovered any video of the initial contact between officer Gillis and Mr. Scheffler.”

Additionally, Craig Green also revealed that there was footage available that was recorded through the camera across the street. The mayor assured that the footage was to be released soon, but it has not been released till now. The case took another turn as a new eyewitness gave their testimony, who happened to be an ESPN employee who was accompanying ESPN reporter, Jeff Darlington on Friday morning.

Bob Wishcusen saw the event unfold in front of his eyes; he recalled the whole incident, and stated, “My impression was he was kind of running alongside the chasing the car, and maybe he tripped and fell.” This statement goes against the felony charges pressed against Scheffler.
