Carlos Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, has raised concerns about the impact of social media and cell phone addiction on athletes’ performance. As Alcaraz prepares to face Daniil Medvedev in the Wimbledon semifinals, Ferrero emphasizes the importance of maintaining focus and mental toughness amid constant distractions.

Ferrero, who has coached Alcaraz since he was 16, highlighted the detrimental effects of excessive screen time on young players, describing it as a potential cause of mental “disconnections” during crucial moments in matches. He noted that these distractions can drop a player’s performance from 100% to as low as 60%.

To combat this, Ferrero stresses the need for mental training and occasional “disconnections” from the sport. He acknowledges the challenges but remains confident in Alcaraz’s ability to handle pressure and achieve great things in tennis.

As social media use continues to rise, with over 62% of the global population engaging in it, the struggle to balance its benefits and drawbacks remains a significant challenge for athletes and coaches alike.
