‘Really Negative’: Xander Schauffele Addresses Jay Monahan’s ‘Inflated’ Gamble Amid Scottie Scheffler’s $60M Move

Xander Schauffele is growing weary of the constant chatter about inflated prize purses in golf. The two-time major champion, while acknowledging the impact of the $25 million Tour Championship payout, insists that money isn’t his main focus. “Winning $25 million would be cool, but it’s not going to change my life,” Schauffele remarked, emphasizing that his motivation lies in the game, not the paycheck.

Schauffele also addressed the growing disparity in earnings within the sport, noting that while Scottie Scheffler has already earned over $29 million this season, the gap between the top players and the rest makes the numbers seem more jarring. He compared golf’s earning structure to other sports, arguing that the skewed distribution fuels the negative perception around golf’s payouts.

Despite the big money on the line, Schauffele remains more concerned about his performance on the course than the cash at stake. As the Tour Championship looms, he’s focused on the challenge ahead, not the size of the purse.
