The officer who reportedly did not turn on his body camera during the arrest of professional golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a suspect.

Louisville Metro Police Officer Javar Downs was searching a man during a traffic stop and seized an envelope with about $10,000 cash just after midnight on Wednesday.

The man reported that Downs took about $4,000 of that cash and submitted the rest to evidence at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

According to an arrest citation, Downs was booked at LMDC on theft and official misconduct charges.

Downs is charged with theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 and official misconduct.

Louisville Metro Police Chief Humphrey placed Downs on emergency suspension, limited his police powers and started the process of terminating his employment.

In May, Downs was the officer who arrested Scheffler during the morning of the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, third-degree criminal mischief, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

All of the charges were dropped.
