Xander Schauffele’s Historic Season Overshadows Scottie Scheffler’s Player of the Year Triumph

As the Tour Championship concluded, Scottie Scheffler walked away with the coveted Player of the Year title, but the spotlight belonged to Xander Schauffele. Despite finishing T4 alongside Russell Henley and Adam Scott, Schauffele’s season was nothing short of historic. The 30-year-old pocketed a staggering $12.5 million in bonus money and shattered records, securing the No. 1 spot in four key PGA Tour categories: bogey avoidance, 3-putt avoidance, scrambling, and total putting.

Schauffele’s bogey avoidance rate of 9.49% and 3-putt avoidance of 0.96% are the lowest in PGA Tour history. His dominance in these metrics eclipses even Scheffler’s impressive season, proving there’s more than one way to be a winner.

Had the PGA of America Awards still existed, Schauffele’s season might have earned him yet another trophy. However, the award was discontinued in 2022, leaving Schauffele’s exceptional performance without official recognition.
