‘Absolutely No Chance’: Justin Thomas to Turn His Back on Team USA After Presidents Cup Rejection, Insider Reveals

Keegan Bradley, who was originally selected to serve as vice-captain for Team USA at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal, has experienced an unexpected role change. Jim Furyk, the team captain, decided to include Bradley as one of his six captain’s picks, relieving him of his vice-captain duties so he could focus solely on playing. This decision left a key leadership spot open, sparking speculation about who might step into the role. Could Justin Thomas, who was surprisingly left off the team, be the one to fill it?

Smylie Kaufman, a close friend of Justin Thomas and former PGA Tour pro, weighed in on the situation during the latest episode of his podcast, *The Smylie Show*. When asked if Thomas could be Furyk’s pick for the vacant vice-captain spot, Kaufman quickly shut down the idea, stating, “There’s no chance he’s doing that. No chance, absolutely, no chance.” According to Kaufman, Thomas would decline the offer, similar to how Bradley might have responded if he were offered a vice-captain role for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Kaufman has been vocal about Thomas’ exclusion from the Presidents Cup, questioning Furyk’s choice to select players like Max Homa and Brian Harman over the 2-time major winner. Kaufman argued that Thomas’ strong finish to the 2024 season, including a T14 at the TOUR Championship, should have earned him a spot on the team. Many in the golf world were also surprised by the omission, especially considering Homa’s absence from East Lake.

Despite the disappointment, Justin Thomas has remained gracious and supportive of Team USA. After Homa expressed his gratitude for being chosen, Thomas was quick to comment on Instagram, encouraging his friend with, “Crush it, bro.” He also took to social media to praise Furyk for assembling a strong team and assured fans that he would be cheering from the sidelines, using this as motivation to ensure he never misses another team event.
