The Real Reason Why Charley Hull Smoked Nelly Korda in Dominant Solheim Cup Showdown

Charley Hull delivered a masterclass in the Solheim Cup singles, defeating world No. 1 Nelly Korda 6 and 4 in a thrilling Sunday showdown. The match, which was the first out in the final session at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, saw Hull dominate the world’s top player with remarkable composure.

“I knew I had to play unbelievably well to beat Nelly. She’s a great player, and I played my heart out,” Hull said after her victory. The match was closely contested through the first five holes, but Hull seized control on the sixth and seventh, taking a 2-up lead.

From there, the European star put on a clinic, birdieing the eighth, 11th, and 13th holes to build a commanding 5-up advantage. Hull sealed the deal with a stunning 6-iron approach on the par-5 14th, landing the ball within tap-in range for a conceded eagle.

“I just love playing under pressure. That’s why I always play well in big events and in front of crowds. It brings out the best in me,” Hull said, showing her love for the intense atmosphere of the Solheim Cup.

Hull’s win cut Team USA’s lead to 10-7, giving Europe a much-needed boost as they battled for the cup. While Korda had dominated in her partner matches earlier in the event, her struggles in big individual moments continued. After a stellar start to 2024, Korda has faltered in crucial tournaments, missing cuts and losing key leads.

Despite her previous Solheim Cup successes, Korda was no match for Hull’s brilliance on Sunday. Hull, now with 15 wins in seven Solheim Cups, cemented her place as one of Europe’s all-time greats.
