In the glitzy world of women’s golf, where conflicts frequently make the news, Georgia Hall and Charley Hull’s long-term friendship and professional camaraderie provide an encouraging tale. These two British celebrities have become the lifeline of women’s golf, fusing their friendships and professions to leave a legacy that goes beyond the game itself.

Both players and fans find inspiration in their fellowship, which is based on respect for one another and a love of the game. Having been friends since they were eleven years old, these two English golfers have spent their whole lives together, executing, playing, and encouraging one another to reach new levels of skill. Let’s take a closer look at their relationship’s past and how they support one another while competing.

More than partners on the greens

Georgia Hall and Charley Hull have a unique connection that has endured over the years, in addition to their shared love of golf. The two have continuously demonstrated their skill and synergy, from their teenage years competing in junior tournaments to collaborating on the stage at a few of the top professional golf events, such as the Solheim Cup, the Women’s British Open, the Aramco Team Series, the Olympics (Tokyo 2020), and the European Team Championships (Amateur Era). Hull talked about her relationship with Hall prior to this year’s Dow Championship, stating, “We’ve been best friends since we were like 11 years old. We always used to play English golf together. We were always golf partners. We’ve shared and done everything together. We used to practice together when we were younger. We kind of know each other’s games inside out,” she said via Women and Golf in June 2024.

Despite having very different personalities, Hall—who is renowned for her unwavering resolve—and Hull—who is praised for her bold and strong playstyle—quickly discovered common ground. Ryan Evans, a mutual acquaintance, even came up with the team name “Rose and Thorn” for them. The ‘Thorn’ was Hull, who was protective of her close friends, especially Hall. “There’s lots of thorns around the rose, so you protect me, don’t you,” Hall reflects. Hull states, “Yeah, I protect her.” As they competed for titles and developed a mutual appreciation, the two prodigies are often found competing in the same events. Both have excelled at major tournaments on their own, with Hall winning the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2018 and Hull winning the Aramco Team Series, Riyadh in 2024.

But whether as a team or as individuals, they have a solid bond that extends beyond the greens. On a personal level, Charley and Georgia’s connection thrives through their mutual laughter, teasing on social media, and steadfast support through good times and bad. Charley Hull recently shared a video story on Instagram, showing Georgia Hall dancing enthusiastically to a Christmas melody while Charley giggled uncontrollably. These interactions illustrate that support from one another can enhance individual genius, and their friendship is an outstanding instance of the strength of unity.
