LIV Golf Lands Another Big Fish; Former World number 1 Joins Rival Tour

In a move that’s sent shockwaves through the golf world, LIV Golf has announced the signing of former world No. 1, Jason Day, in a multi-year deal reportedly worth $100 million.

The Australian golfer, who has 12 PGA Tour wins under his belt, including the 2015 PGA Championship, becomes the latest high-profile player to defect to the Saudi-backed rival tour.

Day’s decision to join LIV Golf is seen as a significant coup for the breakaway tour, which has been actively recruiting top talent in its bid to challenge the PGA Tour’s dominance.

“I’m excited to join the LIV Golf family and be a part of this innovative and exciting new chapter in golf,” Day said in a statement. “The opportunity to compete against the best players in the world and be part of a team environment is something that really appeals to me.”

Day’s signing is the latest in a string of high-profile defections to LIV Golf, which has already lured the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka away from the PGA Tour.

The move is likely to spark further controversy and debate within the golf world, with some critics accusing LIV Golf of using its vast financial resources to poach top players and undermine the traditional golf tours.

However, LIV Golf’s CEO, Greg Norman, hailed Day’s signing as a major victory for the tour, saying: “Jason is an exceptional talent and a fantastic addition to our roster. We’re thrilled to have him on board and look forward to seeing him compete at the highest level.”

Day is expected to make his LIV Golf debut at the tour’s next event in Singapore later this month.
