Scottie Scheffler’s fan outburst
Back in 2019, before Scheffler rose to World No. 1 status and clinched double Masters glory, the American arrived at the Houston Open without a single PGA Tour victory under his belt, reports the Mirror US.
Struggling to make the cut, Scheffler approached the final hole of the day needing to par it and ideally, make a birdie. However, he lost his balance and sliced his approach into the greenside bunker of the par-3 ninth.
Following a disappointing shot, Scheffler was overheard by Golf Channel’s microphones engaging in a heated exchange with a spectator. “Are you kidding me?” an exasperated Scheffler retorted. “You can’t keep your mouth quiet for five minutes, man? Right in the middle of my swing.”

Scottie Scheffler got up and down to make the cut
Despite the distraction, Scheffler managed to make the cut, skillfully getting up and down from a bunker for par, and advanced into the weekend rounds. He finished tied for 28th place overall at -5, pocketing $42,000 for his efforts.
In this year Houston Open, While Lee, Fox, Tosti and Gerard each seek a breakthrough first PGA triumph, Scheffler won nine titles worldwide last year, including his second Masters and Paris Olympic gold, and matched the course record with a 62 on Friday.
Scheffler was bogey-free for the week until he followed a birdie at the par-5 third with a bogey after missing the green with his approach at the fourth.
Scheffler birdied the par-5 eighth and answered a bogey at 13 with a birdie at the par-5 16th but the 36-hole leader only managed a 69.
“Yesterday I holed a bunch of putts, today I feel like I couldn’t get the ball to go in the hole,” Scheffler said. “Feel like I hit a lot of good putts.
“There’s not really much you can do different out there. Try to shoot as low as possible today and I’m going to try to do the same thing tomorrow.”
