Jordan Spieth has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding “mud balls” at the 2025 Masters, suggesting that discussions on the issue are being subtly discouraged by tournament organizers.

After shooting a 69 in the third round, Spieth expressed frustration over the impact of mud adhering to golf balls, particularly on holes 11 and 13. He noted that while the occurrence of mud balls was less frequent this year, they still significantly affected play, especially for those in leading groups. Spieth hinted at a form of censorship, stating that players are expected to “just deal with it,” implying that open discussions on the matter are not welcomed by Augusta National, known for its strict control over the tournament’s narrative .

This isn’t the first time Spieth has been at the center of attention during the Masters. In a notable moment, his caddie, Michael Greller, was heard telling him to “get over it” after a poor tee shot on the 18th hole, highlighting the emotional challenges Spieth faced during the tournament .
