Jannik Sinner is on a roll and, although he acknowledges that he was “ready to do well” after a good pre-season, he didn’t expect to hit the lofty heights he has so far in 2024.

The Italian brushed Jan-Lennard Struff aside in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on Thursday to secure his 24th win of the year.

Sinner has already won three titles this campaign as he started his year by winning his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open and followed it up with trophies at the Rotterdam Open and the Miami Open.

His only defeat so far this year has come in the semi-final of the Indian Wells Open when he was beaten in three sets by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Although his performances this year came on the back of a brilliant end to the 2023 season that saw him win three trophies and steer Italy to the Davis Cup title, the 22-year-old believes his ability to constantly pull out off great results shows that he remains “very focused” on the task at hand.

“No one expected it,” he told Italian media during his press conference. “However, this means that I am very focused, that I am in the present, not looking so much at the past or the future.”

“Talking about myself, I was aware that we had a good preparation [ahead of the season], that I was ready to do well. I’m going through a positive moment, but we take every game as a lesson.”

Sinner dominated against Struff on Thursday yet he saw his glass as half full as he feels the “most important thing” is to always focus on the on-court performance and not the off-court results.

The world No 2 added: “Even today there are things I could have done better, a few more touches perhaps, I hope to do better tomorrow. We must not look at the scores, the wins and losses in my opinion, but how one is on the court. That’s the most important thing.”

Sinner’s development over the past year has been incredible and he is getting “a little more attention” from his opponents.

Asked if his rivals’ behaviour towards him has changed, he told Ubitenns.net: “I don’t think they look at me differently. I feel a little more attention, yes. Let’s say I don’t even pay much attention to it.

“You can go from periods like this to others very quickly. We are doing our own thing, we now have a nice daily routine that helps me stay at 100%. If tomorrow my 100% and 90% of today’s I will give what I have to give. Always 100% maximum.”
