Briggs: LPGA superstar Lexi Thompson is not who you might think

Lexi Thompson, LPGA Tour superstar, created an unforgettable moment at the Dana Open pro-am on Wednesday at Highland Meadows. During her round, she noticed a father and son in the gallery on the second tee and invited 8-year-old Beau Harris of Toledo to join her inside the ropes.

Beau, who proudly shared he could drive the ball 115 yards, was given the chance to putt by Thompson after Dana CEO Jim Kamsickas hit the pin from 150 yards. Though Beau’s seven-footer missed, cheers erupted, and Thompson sank the putt, high-fiving Beau and sharing a smile as wide as Tenmile Creek.

This heartwarming moment stood out on a day that began with a literal bang when an amateur’s drive shattered a car window. Thompson’s genuine connection with fans, especially kids, highlights her true character. Known for her occasional difficulty with the media, Thompson consistently delights fans, sponsors, and volunteers, going the extra mile to connect with and inspire young golfers.

As she approaches her final season, retiring from full-time competition, Thompson’s legacy of fan engagement and her generous spirit remain as impactful as her on-course achievements.
