Greg Norman’s Stubbornness to Cost Brooks Koepka & Co Dearly as Their Liv Golf Future Gets Plunged Into Darkness

Greg Norman’s decision to retract the appeal for LIV Golf players to earn Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points could spell trouble for the league. Last October, the OWGR rejected LIV’s request due to its 54-hole format, a sticking point that Norman refuses to change, despite key figures like Jon Rahm suggesting a switch to 72 holes could solve many of the league’s issues.

This stance is not only jeopardizing LIV players’ chances of qualifying for majors but also casting a shadow over the league’s future. Brooks Koepka, a 5-time major winner, expressed disappointment with his season, despite winning two LIV events, emphasizing that majors matter more than LIV victories.

Adding to LIV Golf’s woes, recent viewership numbers have been dismal. The LIV Golf Greenbrier event attracted only 136k viewers on Saturday and 165k on Sunday, a stark contrast to the PGA Tour’s 2.2 million viewers for the St. Jude Championship. Even with suggestions from players like Bryson DeChambeau to secure a TV partner, LIV Golf’s ratings continue to struggle.

As the merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf faces delays, Norman’s refusal to adapt may leave the breakaway league in a precarious position, with no clear solution in sight.
