Is Mental Peace Ruining Charley Hull’s Health? Past Remarks Paints A Confusing Picture

LPGA star Charley Hull has a unique way of finding calm on the golf course: smoking. The British golfer made headlines at the Women’s US Open for casually smoking while signing autographs, sparking curiosity about her unusual habit. Hull has openly described smoking as her method of staying relaxed, even admitting that not being able to smoke at certain venues like Le Golf National might throw her off.

But what started as a calming ritual has proven detrimental to her health. Hull has long battled asthma, an issue that flared up dramatically during the 2016 UL International Crown, where she suffered a severe asthma attack, forcing her to withdraw from a day of competition. The health scare resurfaced at the 2023 AIG Women’s Open, where she was caught off guard without her inhaler when protestors filled the air with colored smoke.

Adding to her challenges, Hull has been diagnosed with severe ADHD, a condition she publicly discussed after taking a break to focus on her mental health in 2023. Despite these health concerns, Hull returned to competition stronger, securing a tie for second place at the US Women’s Open. She now recognizes her triggers and is finding ways to manage her conditions, but the battle between her calming habits and her health rages on.
