Scheffler’s Record-Tying 62 Stirs Drama as McIlroy Fights Back Before Houston Open Suspension

Scottie Scheffler delivered a masterclass in precision golf at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, firing a scintillating 8-under 62 to tie the Memorial Park course record. His bogey-free round catapulted him to an 11-under total, securing a one-shot lead before darkness halted play following a storm delay.

Returning from off-season surgery, Scheffler showcased a dominant all-around game, missing only one green and rolling in a 30-foot birdie putt at the 11th. His performance matched his own 2021 course record, shared with Tony Finau.

Chasing him closely, Taylor Pendrith shot 65, while Nico Echavarria stumbled late with a water hazard mishap. Rory McIlroy, 11 shots back at one point, rallied with three straight birdies to stay in contention.

With just one tournament left before the Masters, Scheffler’s commanding play sets the stage for a thrilling weekend in Houston.
