Jordan Spieth has done something at the Valero Texas Open which suggests he could be a real threat at The Masters next week

While Jordan Spieth’s form in 2025 suggests that he has little right to be considered a leading contender at The Masters, the 31-year-old’s record at Augusta National makes it nearly impossible to count him out anytime he heads down Magnolia Lane.

In truth, Jordan Spieth is almost certainly not going to win the Valero Texas Open this week. After three rounds, Spieth finds himself tied for 17th, nine shots back of Brian Harman. He has also posted two one over par rounds in a row at TPC San Antonio.

It is potentially not the confidence boost that he would have been hoping for heading to Augusta National.

The Masters has been a happy hunting ground for Spieth over the years, with six top 10 finishes in 11 appearances. Of course, it provided the stage for his first major title back in 2015, when he announced himself as a superstar of the game.

Jordan Spieth showing some positive signs ahead of The Masters

It really felt as if Spieth was never going to miss a putt that week. Many fans will remember how lethal he was from close range, particularly as he felt confident enough in his stroke to only look at the hole while he attempted to make contact with the ball.

Given Spieth’s history at Augusta, you really get the sense that he is always likely to be a threat if his putter is hot. And based on this week in San Antonio, it would appear that the flat stick may just be warming up at the perfect time.

The Jordan Spieth experience continues to give fans hope ahead of Augusta National
Fans have seen the best and worst of Spieth already in 2025. He has missed cuts, finished towards the back end of the field, and found himself in contention at the WM Phoenix Open. And his putting performance in the second round at the Valero was, admittedly, abysmal.

So it is definitely a lottery when it comes to what Spieth is going to turn up each week. But there have been enough signs to suggest that there could be something special around the corner if he can somehow find a way to put it all together.

Thankfully for Spieth, it is now Augusta National which is waiting around that corner.
